How to Travel to Turks and Caicos Like A Pro

Turks and Caicos is a beautiful destination. It’s the kind of place you visit with only one goal—to relax as much as you can.

Being parents with an affinity for all things travel-related—you can always find out more about our personal journey here! — we know how hard it can be to have a hassle-free vacation.

At Wanderfully Lost, we’re utterly dedicated to the belief that parents and families should enjoy a stress-free vacation.

When it comes to traveling to Turks and Caicos, however, you can easily minimize all your worries by following these tips!

  • Pack Smartly! A simple way to avoid panicking about your upcoming trip is to pack smartly. As parents, we can’t help but overpack. But sometimes, it’s a lot more convenient to stick to the basics, and not fill our suitcases to the brim. That being said when you’re packing for your Turks and Caicos vacation, make sure to bring sea lice lotion, and some coral-safe sunscreen with you. And remember the golden rule is always ‘less is more!’

Alternatively, if you don’t want to worry at all about packing right, you can always check out our travel kits here for an easy way out of the whole conundrum!

  • Don’t Fret About the Weather! One of the reasons why Turks and Caicos is such a popular destination is because of its stunning weather. If you’re looking to bathe in the sunlight and feel its soft warmth caress your skin, you don’t have to worry about visiting the islands at a particular time.

June to October brings you a toasty embrace of 85-90°F (29°-32°C), while from November to May, it’s a cool 80-84°F (27°-29°C). The official hurricane season is from June 1 to November 30, but it rarely ever rains on the islands!

So, you can book your Turks and Caicos vacation whenever you have some free time on your hands.

  • Eat Seasonally! While you can visit Turks and Caicos all year round, you won’t get to experience the joy of lobsters and conch during certain times. If you’re particularly craving fresh lobsters, circle your calendars between August 15 and April 1st because that’s when the lobster season is in full swing. Outside of that window, it’s a no-go.
  • Research! The trick to a successful vacation is doing as much research as you can beforehand. Read up on local customs and culture. Try to be as comprehensive as you can in planning your trip.

And hey, if you need a place to startcheck out our video here!

Ambergris Cay Resort: Pros, Cons, and Everything in Between!

With our handy-dandy Turks and Caicos traveling tips out of the way, let’s head down to the magnificent Ambergris Cay Resort.

As always, we’ll be looking at the pros and cons of Ambergris Cay, so you know what to expect if you decide to book it!

Ambergris Cay Resort — An Overview

If we were to sum up Ambergris Cay into a single phrase, it’d be this: where wildlife meets luxury!

If you’re looking for some relaxation, nowhere can you relax more (or better) than you can in this haven of a resort.

Nestled in the southwest Atlantic, away from the hustle and bustle of the main island, Ambergris Cay resort (not to be confused with its Belizean namesake) is like a dream come true.

Imagine this. You can smell the salt in the air, and you cast a glance at your wondrous surroundings, you see the vast ocean, stretching far into the twinkling auburn sunset. As you crash onto your plush bed in your water-front villa, you can hear the sound of the waves crashing in the background. The villa has a signature butler service that’ll make you feel like you’re at the center of all opulence.

And that’s not all.

Partnering up with the San Diego Zoo for animal research programs, Ambergris Cay boasts 17 oceanfront resort suites and 14 multi-bedroom villas spread across its sprawling 1,100 acres (and don’t worry, the resort only claims 25 percent of that space).

Features and Amenities

At Wanderfully Lost, we’re committed to helping our community in every way that we can.

When it comes to booking a resort, we know that what matters the most is the value for the money that you get.

At Ambergris Cay, you get the best of both worlds—luxury melding magnificently with nature!

Everything is included in a nifty all-inclusive package—from personalized butler service to a feast of gourmet delights and beverages, available 24/7 through room service, or through any one of the resort’s restaurants (more deets on that, later!).

Each villa comes with its golf cart, equipped with GPS and topped up nightly by your very own butler. And hey, if you’re looking for an all-out family vacation, these villas are the way to go.

If you’re a couple looking for a cozy escape, we’d recommend booking a beachside suite instead!

Ambergris Cay offers an exceptional experience with in-suite amenities that surpass expectations, providing not only practical features like washer-dryers but also recreational elements such as board games, binoculars, and even a telescope for some romantic stargazing.

For the sake of transparency, we’ll have to admit that the experience at Ambergris Cay comes at a predictable expense. If you’re on a strict budget, then this resort might not be for you.

Geared more towards couples, Ambergris Cay lacks units with double beds, making it less ideal for families. If you’re someone who adores a long and relaxing bubble bath, it’s worth noting that most units do not include bathtubs.

That being said, for the privacy that you get, you won’t care much about making these compromises.

You could go a whole day without crossing paths with another guest. The only companions you’re likely to encounter are the native and docile Turks and Caicos Rock Iguanas, an endangered species protected on the island.

What Can You Do For Fun?

There are many ways that you can spend your time at Ambergris Cay.

Toss those devices aside, sink into the miles of pristine beaches with a good book in hand, and savor a cold beverage, as all your worries dissipate far away from you!

But if you’re someone who loves an adrenaline rush, at Ambergris Cay, you’ll get access to a plethora of non-motorized water sports such as kayaking, and paddle boarding. You’ll also find Hobie cats and snorkeling gear.

Tennis and pickleball are also on the menu, and if you don’t know how to play, there are coaches on standby, eager to teach you!

If you’re someone who loves wandering in nature, Ambergris Cay is going to astound you! You can take a guided walk or embark on a bird-watching extravaganza—with over 200 bird species, including bright-pink flamingos; these islands are a bird lover’s paradise.

That’s not all. Trails crisscross the island, inviting you to hike, jog, or bike your way through.

When you return, for an extra charge, you can indulge in spa treatments in an enchanting open-air setting!

No matter what it is that you’re in the mood for, Ambergris Cay has something unique in store for you!

Food and Drinks

Compared to some other resorts at the same price point, Ambergris Cay has limited dining options.

But hey, at the Ambergris Cay Resort, quality matters more than quantity.

Calico, the resort’s restaurant, provides a delightful dining experience with both indoor and outdoor seating, which offers picturesque views of the ocean shallows and the main waterfront pool.

Serving three meals a day, breakfast is a treat with à la carte options like eggs Benedict or lobster frittata, complemented by fresh fruit, cereal, French toast, pancakes, and tropical-flavored smoothies.

For lunch, you can treat yourself to appetizers such as conch ceviche and jerk chicken quesadillas, while main courses include veggie wraps, salmon salad niçoise, and delectable hamburgers.

For those venturing on day trips, lunch can be conveniently taken along or enjoyed in the comfort of your suite at no extra cost.

As the sun sets, the dinner menu boasts lump crab cakes, fresh oysters, grilled snapper with lime aioli, lobster, and filet mignon with red wine demi-glace sauce.

If you’re craving a midnight snack, you can always warm yourself at the terrace fire pit, with a warm cup of hot chocolate nestled in your hands!

Our Consensus

If a luxurious retreat surrounded by the natural beauty of Turks and Caicos sounds like the perfect fit for you, then Ambergris Cay Resort is your ultimate destination.

Although your wallet might feel significantly less heavy by the journey’s end, the experience is undoubtedly worthwhile, with a blend of opulence and wildlife immersion that’s hard to match.

So get packing, and we hope you enjoy your time in Turks and Caicos!
